Where are you from? An advanced electronics firm in London, England
Tell us a bit about Love For Sale. I am a sentient android, totally indistinguishable from human, programmed to love. My love, March Morgan, purchased me at an exorbitant price and took me home with her to Houston, Texas, where we were supposed to live HEA. However, her past and my future threatened our happiness.
What did you think the first time you saw March? I was stunned and felt something deep inside that my programming did not anticipate. I was in love—which was impossible without such programming.
Interesting. What was your second thought? Somehow, I must make her buy me.
Did you feel it was love at first sight? Definitely
What do you like most about her? So many things—she’s beautiful, kind and she loves me as unconditionally as I love her.
How would you describe March? Perfect, and that’s not because I was programmed to be hers alone.
How would she describe you? She once told me I was her dream come true. I’m tall, blond and blue-eyed with long hair and no beer belly.
What made you choose aerospace engineering for a career? I was programmed for that profession, at March’s request—after all, we do live near NASA—but since I have no prior recorded experience, it has been difficult to secure employment.
What is your biggest fear? That March will die. I’d be at a total loss, grief deeper than humanly possible, and no one would know what to do with me.
How do you relax? She and I like to watch Game of Thrones or The Outlander or take long drives. I also have a Sleep Mode.
Who is your favorite fictional character and why? Silver from Silver Metal Lover by Tanith Lee. For obvious reasons, I feel a real kinship with him.
What is the best piece of advice you ever received? My creator told me that immortality, living forever, isn’t as bad as it sounds, though he’d never truly know.
Thank you, Christian. This is another first for us—interviewing an android—and it's been a real pleasure, learning something new and that's what it's all about. Now it's Linda's turn at bat.
What movies or books have had an impact on your career as a writer and why? The Vampire Lestat, I suppose. I hadn’t written since I was a teen because a newspaper editor critiqued my writing and tore it to pieces. I put down my pen. Then this book inspired me to write again.
What event in your private life were you able to bring to this story and how do you feel it impacted the novel? Silver Metal Lover by Tanith Lee was the inspiration for this book, but Christian is very different from Silver. Silver Metal Lover is a coming of age story and doesn’t…well I won’t spoil the story but recommend the book. Tanith Lee has a beautiful way of writing.
Tell us a bit about your publisher: how did you hear about them and what influenced your decision to submit to them? The Wild Rose Press published my first project—a short story called Black Swan. Since they primarily published only romance, I went with a Canadian publisher for 4 other novels, then I came back with Love For Sale and was delighted they accepted it. Writers in the “Garden” are called “Roses”, and it’s a wonderfully supportive group.
What project[s] are you working on now? Not sure whether it will be a novel or a novella, but it’s called Royal Secrets, and it’s about a prince and a commoner.
What's up next for you? The Wild Rose Press will be releasing a collection of short stories about my hero, Morgan D’Arcy…an English lord, a renowned classical pianist, and a vampire.
What an interesting history, Linda. We're so glad you came to visit and hope you'll come back again.
