ON THE RUN
BY: MEASHA STONE

She thought she could run, but he’d never let her get away.
Sarah Bennet walked has finally found the break in her career. The sort of story to win her a byline in a serious newspaper. The only problem is, the people in the story don’t want it told. And they are willing to do anything to stop her.

Jeremy has watched Sarah from the sidelines as she’s progressed in career as a journalist waiting for the moment that he can finally retake what he lost years ago. He will protect her. He will save her from her recklessness. And by the time he’s done, he will own her.

~*~*~*~*~*~

Excerpt:
"Are we here already?" She stirred next to him, digging the heels of her hands into her eyes.

"Yep." He pulled the car into the driveway of the lake house and parked.

After a long silence, he spoke. "There're rules, Sarah."

She sighed. "Of course, there are. Aren't there always with you?"

He let that go by. "You don't leave the house without telling me. Not even to go out on the back porch or down to the water."

"But what will the neighbors think? It is a lake house? If we're never on the lake, won't that seem weird?"

She waved toward the other houses. All of the houses faced the main road, but the large lots kept them somewhat private. It would have to do for the time being. It wouldn't be long, a few days at most, before he could safely deliver her where she needed to be.

"They'll think you're a good girl who obeys." He deepened his voice, remembering exactly what that tone did for her. Her pupils dilated, and a soft pink tinted her cheeks. "You remember what happens to bad girls, right, Sarah?"

"What are the other rules?" she asked, ignoring his question.

     Well that wouldn't do.

     "Answer me, Sarah."

She stared at him, her eyes narrowed, lips thinned. "Yes, Jeremy. I remember. But this isn't then. You aren't my boyfriend anymore. You aren't my ow—"

She stopped, not saying the word they'd used for his role in their relationship. The secret they kept from their friends who would have thought them miscreants—sexual deviants.

"I may not own you anymore, Sarah, but you are under my protection. Means the same thing as far as I'm concerned."

Come Dance With Me

Improvisational jazz musician meets buttoned up English teacher—will the Christmas lights sparkle or shatter before the dance ends?

Wild Women Authors welcomes Delsora Lowe and
Come Dance With Me: A Serenity Harbor Maine Novella,
A Starlight Grille series, Book Two

Sam Johnson, a burned out, New York City iconic jazz pianist transplanted to small town Maine, finds himself and his muse again through a disparate group of committed teen musicians and their buttoned up, efficient, high school English teacher who is roped into advising the afterschool jazz club.
Ashley Sullivan, an expert in classical music and teaching the bard, is out of her element when it comes to jazz or anything impromptu and desperately needs Sam’s help. What she doesn’t know is Sam has made it his mission before this gig ends to get Ashley to lighten up and enjoy the things in life she denies herself; music, friends, spontaneity, creativity, and yes, love.
When Sam works to rescue her from her childhood fears, Ashley runs the other direction. Can what is done out of love tear apart a relationship before it’s in full swing, or forever cement a love that is true?

Excerpt:
She watched his graceful body climb the three steps to the stage. She sat close enough to see Sam’s fingers stroke the keys. The notes swirled around her heart and straight to her toes. Ashley closed her eyes and swayed to the slow, sensual rhythms. His tempo eased from slow to fast. Her feet tapped out the beat, the sounds coursing a hot path through her veins. The ebb and flow of jazz, like making love, engulfed her entire being. She held close the urge to moan and sigh. Unlike the night she sat with Mary Beth, now she imagined Sam played only for her.

To think she owned his recordings, but never imagined she’d ever meet the man. His music had been the one thing that made her feel alive these last few years, and now she knew him…like a friend. He still scared the stuffing out of her. But not in a bad way. She hadn’t expected him to like her, and treat her like a friend, when she’d agreed to this after-school partnership. But here she sat.

     “He’s something, isn’t he?”

Ashley swiveled toward the voice behind her. A petite, red-headed woman grinned.

Reviews for The Legacy of Parkers Point: A Serenity Harbor Maine Novella, A Starlight Grille series, Book One

Starlight Grille Book 1
…a feel good story, full of love and romance and hope….no game playing, no lies, manipulation or underhanded deceit to win affection….just two strong people finding love, learning to trust, and trying to make it work.
The author depicts life in a small town with memorable characters and descriptive scenery. Lauralee and Grayson are two beautiful people inside and out. Their chemistry heats up the pages…. The secondary characters are well written and the next book in the series is about the piano player, Luke, at the Starlight Grille.
Dianamcc - Romance Junkies – Five Hearts
Set on the picturesque sea coast of Maine….a heartfelt tale of helping and healing…. a delightful, emotional read.
N, Amazon Reader – Five Stars
…a wonderful story of learning to trust in love enough to put the past behind you….characters are smart, sexy and hopeful and make you feel great for having read their story.
HarborGirl, Amazon Reader – Five Stars
The romance is done very well, with chemistry galore and a rich, beautiful world in Serenity Harbor. Definitely a keeper!
M, Amazon Reader – Five Stars
This is a sweet story. The romance is a well-written small town story where two people learn to trust both each other and themselves. I highly recommend the story.
Mainer, Amazon Reader – Four Stars
I appreciated how well-developed and fleshed out Delsora's characters are, despite this being a shorter story….Lauralee & Grayson grab hold of you from page one. I alternated between smiling over their cute interactions, to swooning over the steamier scenes (closed bedroom door).
Colleen, Amazon Reader – Five Stars
…a lovely, heartwarming story which takes the reader back to a time when family name and honor took priority for power brokers masquerading as parents—and the effects those antiquated beliefs continue to have on the generations that follow….It's a winner.
Kat, Amazon Reader – Five Stars
I loved this novella. The small, coastal Maine town was beautifully described. I really liked Gray and Lauralee right away. They connected quickly, and I loved their banter and flirtation.
Laurie, Goodreads Reader – Five Stars

A bit about our focus author, Delsora Lowe:
From Cabins to Cottages…Keep the Home Fires Burning
A transplanted big city gal, world-wide traveler, and foreign-service brat, who now lives in a coastal Maine town, Delsora Lowe loves to write about small town heroes from the cowboys and ranchers of Colorado to the game wardens and lobstermen of Maine. Her work in the hospitality industry, rape crisis, admissions, alumni relations, and women’s advocacy has allowed her to interact on a daily basis with real life heroines and heroes. Lowe’s family visits to Colorado are the inspiration for an upcoming contemporary western series in 2018. And her daughter’s wedding and her son’s home on the coast of Maine provided plentiful ideas for the Starlight Grille series.

Wild Women Focus on First Contact and author Kat Green

. . . . Sloane Osborne is a paranormal realtor in the business of selling haunted houses but, in truth, she’s only searching for one ghost. And her time is running out. It’s the 366th day after her fiancĂ©’s death.
. . . . Michael used to like putting things off for “a year and a day”—so tonight’s the night. Sloane will do anything to make contact with him before the clock strikes midnight. When she gets a call to check out a home in Waukesha, Wisconsin, it’s the last place she thinks Michael would contact her.
. . . . Sloane is dead wrong.

Wow. Wild Women Authors focus on Sloane Osborne from First Contact, a paranormal suspense by author Kat Green, published by the Wild Rose Press. First up is Sloane.
Where are you from? I’m a bit of a nomad, I’ve lived in five states. There is nowhere I really call home.
Tell us a bit about First Contact: I lost my fiancĂ© in a car accident a year and a day ago. With everything, he told me to wait a year and a day. So tonight’s the night. I’m a ghost hunter and I’m not going home until I find him.
What did you think the first time you saw Michael? He was jaw-dropping gorgeous. Michael and his friend Jonah saw me first at the bar. They flipped a coin and Michael came over to talk to me. The rest is history. I was lucky to have two best friends, because dating Michael meant I also got Jonah. I love them both.
What was your second thought? I was a little tipsy to tell you the truth, so I really don’t remember…haha!
Been there, done that. Was it love at first sight? No, I fell in love with him.
What do you like most about him? His brain. Michael was a smarty-pants!
How would you describe Michael? I try not to think about him anymore since I lost him, it hurts too much.
Understandable. How would he describe you? He always said I was his soul mate.
What made you choose being a paranormal real estate agent as a career? To find Michael! I had to see him one more time.
What is your biggest fear? Dehydration.
How do you relax? I have Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder. I never get to relax.
Who is your favorite fictional character? Duh! Mickey Mouse.
Good one. Last one: what is the best piece of advice you ever received? Follow your heart.
Thanks for spending time with us, Sloane. Now we'd like to talk to Kat deFalla, the “Kat” part of Kat Green.
What movies or books have had an impact on your career as a writer? The Sixth Sense. Ghost. Constantine. Poltergeist. Oculus.
Love, love, love all your choices but what event in your private life were you able to bring to this story and how do you feel it impacted the novel? I lived in a VERY haunted house. We had a team of investigators come. Things got worse. We eventually had a Native American shaman come. She cleansed the house, but told us to leave.
Tell us a bit about your publisher: how did you hear about them and what influenced your decision to submit to them? I publish as Kat de Falla with The Wild Rose Press and brought them this Haunts for Sale series that I co-write with author Rachel Green. They bought the series and we are eternally grateful!
What book[s] currently rest on your TBR pile? Ashantay Peter’s latest tome Lovers by Midnight. Her characters never fail to stick with me!
Lastly, what's up next and when can we expect to see it on the shelves? I’m finishing up my first contemporary romance…Not for Me which should be available before Christmas.

Kat brought along an excerpt:
"Hello?" Sloane's voice was tentative, even to her own ears. It was one thing to talk to Michael, but he was a ghost she known in life. It was another to start a conversation with a dead stranger. "Can you hear me?"
The woman didn't turn, her whole body focused on the next drop of water until it had floated through her hand again. The woman sighed, sitting back on her heels as she watched the wall. "Water," she rasped. "Do you have any water?"
"I'm sorry. I don't have anything." Sloane said. "I tried to give you water last night, but no one drank it."
"What are you doing here? You aren't supposed to be here!"
The woman's voice was so raspy Sloane could barely hear her. She turned her head slowly as though removing her gaze from the little bit of water seeping through the stone was painful. When her gaze finally rested on Sloane, her eyes were dark black pits, swirling with tiny dancing lights.
Sloane stepped back involuntarily, then gathered her courage to approach the apparition. She could sense the poor girl wasn't dangerous. She was trapped here as much as Sloane was herself. "I found the secret door and got pushed in." Sloane said. "Then the door shut behind me and I couldn't get out."
"Ah, you must have been at Alvin's house," the woman rose to her feet. "Not a safe place to be. Though nothing about this area is safe."

We love our readers and always want to hear your ghost story! Contact Kat Green at:

Wild Women Focus on Take A Chance On Me

Who do you turn to when the chips are down?

Leaving the Midwest to follow her boyfriend to Victory, New York was a mistake.
When he gambles away her college savings, and is caught with a prostitute, it is clear that Harper gave her heart—and ATM card—to the wrong man. Embarrassed, and having no means to get home, she tries to pick up the pieces of her life in Victory. But when she witnesses her friend’s murder, her luck turns even colder, and the stakes are raised.
He wants to rid his little part of the world of crime.
But a certain red-headed dealer at La Bonne Chance casino is a distraction he can’t turn away from…and he’s not sure he wants to. When Harper is hunted by mobsters, Cash will do anything to keep her safe, even if it means going all in and putting his heart on the table.
Will Cash find Harper before the mob can?
And even if he does, will he be able to convince her to take a chance on him when everything around her is a lie? Harper is on the biggest losing streak of her life. But with the bad guys hot on her trail, is Cash a winning bet? If she makes another mistake, it could be her final wager.

Will they be lucky in love, or are they running out of chips?

Wild Women Authors is pleased to welcome back our pal, M.J. Schiller, with her latest release, Take A Chance On Me, and hero Cash Delmonaco. As is our practice, Cash will take the lead.
Where are you from? Originally from Syracuse, but have lived longer in Victory, New York, up near the Buffalo area.
Tell us a bit about Take A Chance On Me. It’s the story of how Harper and I met. In a world of hurt, she’d just witnessed her best friend’s murder and the mob was after her. I’m a police officer and some bad cops were messed up with the case. Because of that, and a number of other lies she was told, getting her to trust me was no easy feat.
What did you think the first time you saw Harper? What any guy would think—she’s gorgeous.
Works for us. And your second thought? I sensed a vulnerability about her that drew me in. Harper would say it’s my Superman complex. I want to save everybody. As far as shortcomings go, that’s not too bad? Right?
Was it was love at first sight? Lust at first sight, love about a half-hour after I started talking to her. We just seemed to…connect.
What do you like most about her? With all of her vulnerability, she’s brave. And tough. But stubborn with a capital “S” at times. …And even that I find as irresistible as it is infuriating.
How would you describe Harper? Well, before I learned her name I called her Five-Foot-Two (which is, ironically, her height). And talk about eyes of blue—hers are the bluest ever. When she fixes me with those eyes, it’s a total turn-on. She’s got this super-hot red hair that sets off flawless skin. But those are just her physical attributes. You know, the things I would put down for a suspect’s description. The rest of her you can’t put down on paper. She’s warm, sympathetic, funny, crazy-sexy…I love how she can be defenseless, but strong at the same time. The paradox drives me wild. She’s got a huge heart.
How would she describe you? I think she thinks I’m an okay guy. She trusts me now, and that’s the most important part.
What made you choose police work for a career? Well, as it turns out, Harper and I have more than a few things in common. I witnessed my parents’ murders. Law enforcement just seemed to be a natural path after that. I want to do the best I can to make sure no one else gets into the position I found myself in when I was a kid.
What is your biggest fear? Wow. I’ve never thought about that. Failure, I guess. Letting down the people I love.
How do you relax? Like 90% of guys—pop open a beer and turn on a game. Any game.
We won't get into taking bets on the series, so we'll ask who is your favorite fictional character? Well, I’m embarrassed to admit I don’t do much fiction. I read a ton of sports articles and I like autobiographies. I just finished one on the Red Rocker, Sammy Hagar, that was excellent. It’s called Red, with some long subtitle which I can’t remember at the moment. But very good.
What is the best piece of advice you ever received? I don’t know. Stop, drop, and roll? [Cash chuckles, then stares off. When he speaks next, his voice is softer] My dad once told me to write my own eulogy. Then never stop revising it. That really made me think. Then, and later, when I was writing his.
Great way to end any interview, Cash. Thanks for giving us a look into your life and times. It's time we chatted with M.J.
What movies or books have had an impact on your career as a writer? Stephen King’s On Writing and anything that Nora Roberts has ever written.
What event in your private life were you able to bring to this story and how do you feel it impacted the novel? The drunk scene. No, I’m just kidding. A friend of ours organizes a trip to Vegas each October, which we affectionately call Vegaspalooza. Since Take A Chance On Me is written about a casino, I was able to use my Vegas experiences. But I don’t gamble, so I had to query my husband and his boys to make sure the various card scenarios were accurate.
Tell us a bit about your publisher: how did you hear about them and what influenced your decision to submit to them? This was self-published, but I have a new chick lit series with ePublishing Works!, a publisher out of Shewsbury, PA. Several of my friends had books published with them and had great success. I felt it would extend my reach.
What book[s] currently rest on your TBR pile? Oh, my gosh. So many good ones! The next one, though, is a dear friend’s book about his uncle called, Our
Forgotten Uncle Duane Reuben Blair, 1925-1949. Allen Leroy Blair, or, as we like to call him, Al, inherited a wallet that ended up being his uncle’s. Curious, he delved into the past and tells the interesting stories he discovered about his uncle.
Lastly, what's up next and when can we expect to see it on the shelves? Next up is The Devil You Know, the third in my Devilish Divas series, which is that chick lit work I talked about earlier. I’m almost done with my end, in final edits, but I don’t know how long it will take the publisher to get it up. I’ll admit I’m impatient. I want everyone to hear Zoe and Zack’s story, or this part of their story.

M.J. brought along an excerpt for us:
Cash slowly pulled his keys out of the door, examining the pair. “What’s going on?”
“Nothing. Right, Ian?”
“Nothing. Like she said.”
Cash closed the door and set his keys on the end table. “Uh-huh.” He stuck his hands in his pockets. “What’s behind your back?”
“You’re on your own.” Ian ducked into the kitchen.
“Coward,” she mumbled out of the side of her mouth.
Cash moved forward and she took a step back. He lunged, catching her, and she screamed. He wrestled the bottle out of her hand and brought it out where he could see it. Ian ran in, then stopped when he saw everything was fine and put a hand over his heart, leaning against the side of the archway between the two rooms.
“Hmm.” He tilted the bottle. “Is this my Jäger?”
They looked at each other with open mouths, but neither spoke. Cash ambled over to the coffee table and clinked the bottle against the shot glasses as he set it down. “So—and correct me if I’m wrong—it looks like, while I’ve been out working my ass off, the two of you were busy getting snockered.”
“Oh, no. We were working hard, right, Ian?”
Ian made an attempt to stand straight, but swayed comically. “We were working hard.” He nodded his head, but turned to Harper. “What were we working hard at again?”
“Looking at the mug shots.”
“Oh. Yeah. That’s right. We were looking at the mug shots.” He faced Cash. “And doing shots.”
“Sh-sh-sh. It’s a secret.” Harper laughed.
Ian chuckled along with her. “Oh, yeah.”
Cash put his hands on his hips. “Well, I hate to tell you, friends, but the cat’s out of the bag now.”
“Cat? What cat?” Harper cracked up again.
“He has a cat?” Ian seemed genuinely confused, looking around for the feline. “You never told me you had a cat.”
For some reason she still thought this was hysterical.
Cash put his feet on the coffee table, spreading his arms out along the top of the couch. “Whose idea was this anyhow?”
They both pointed at each other.
“It was mine?” Harper asked. Ian nodded. “Oh. It was mine.” She smiled and didn’t try to hide her pride.
Cash shook his head and pulled out his phone. “Okay, Ian. I’m calling you an Uber.” He punched some buttons. “Chrissy’s gonna kick your butt. And the next time she sees me, she’s gonna kick my butt.” He looked at his screen. “Two minutes away.” Coming over to put his arm around Ian, Cash steered him to the door.
“I’m leaving?”
Cash grabbed his jacket off a recliner. “Yes, you are. Maybe the night air will sober you up some.”
“I doubt it.”
Cash laughed. “I doubt it, too. And you, little missie—” he swung around to point to her.
She looked about, then put a finger on her chest and mouthed “Me?”
“Yes, you. Don’t think you’re off the hook. I’ll deal with you when I get back.”

Meet Annunciata Doyle of Caper Magic

This month Kat and I brought Caper Magic out of mothballs to celebrate October and, of course, Halloween, There is no better way to do it than introduce our readers to Annunciata "Nunie" Doyle and Nick Forrester, two sworn enemies who are thrown together to save Caper Madness a month long celebration of all that is Halloween.
To make things even more special I've spent the day [Friday the 6th of October] introducing a dear friend to Cape Vincent, the historic tourist town on the Saint Lawrence River in Northern New York State which is the setting for Cape Brendan and Caper Madness.
Rather than have me explain things, let Nunie Doyle do it . . .

Where are you from? I was born and raised in Belfast in the north of Ireland.
Did you have a happy childhood? I suppose it was as happy as most Catholic girls in that day and age raised in the North, midst poverty and religious bigotry, with no future except to marry an unemployed drunkard and push out ten to twelve babes by the time they're forty. When I was seven, my parents were murdered by a faction of the Ulster Volunteer Force who bombed a local pub because they served Catholics. Thereafter I was sent to live with my grandparents in Tuam, a cathedral city in the western part of the Irish Republic, near Ashford Castle and the village of Cong where parts of The Quiet Man were filmed. As I was a handful in those days, the grandparents sent me to one of the Magdelene Laundries, in hopes the nuns would teach me a skill. The Tuam facility was recently in the news after the remains of many young women and infants, were discovered.

Where do you live now? I've been in Cape Brendan, a small tourist town on the eastern most edge of Lake Ontario where it bleeds into the Saint Lawrence River for the past several years. We are known for two things: ship building and Caper Madness, a month long celebration of all things Halloween.

What do you do for a living? I am a retired social worker. At the height of my career I was Director of Crime Victim Services in Syracuse New York.

Is there something you'd rather be doing? To supplement my rather meager retirement checks, I model for an agency, La Vrai Beaute, which is known for its older and large size models. Come winter, when the Cape is often as cold as Mother Superior's heart, I don't mind spending a few
weeks in places where it rarely falls below 80 degrees, showing off fabulous clothes by talented designers.

What's going on in your life right now? I am harboring a woman and her children while they wait on a judge to decide which parent will be awarded permanent custody of these delightful kids. The husband and father . . . is less than upstanding shall I say. His attorney, a posturing, skeeving git if there ever was one, is arse deep in illegal machinations, making sure his client wins his children back. If the judge is having a bad hair day or is pre-menstrual and rules against the mother, it will be my job to immediately get her to a safe place. If this man, the husband I
mean, is granted custody, he will kill her and the children. Or worse.

Is there someone special in your life right now? Nicholas Forrester came to Cape Brendan to assist Henri Pierpont, his elderly uncle, in the coordination of Caper Madness. After Hank's
health takes a swan dive, he asked me to assist Nick with managing the events. Nick is having a significant amount of difficulty adjusting to me as well as the quirks and foibles of the Capers as
the locals call themselves.

How did you two meet? We were in the Emergency Room, waiting for word on Henri's condition. Nick knows me, though we never met, with relation to an unfortunate event from our pasts. Back then, I felt I was doing my job as the head of a victim advocacy agency, but Nick blames me for his best friend losing his position on the police force and eventual suicide. Things were rather tense in the ER, especially after Henri asked me to assist Nick on Caper Madness and “make him proud”. I couldn't say no but Nick made my life miserable until we resolved our differences.

What's his family like? His uncle, the coordinator of Caper Madness, is Nick's only living relative. Henri and his deceased wife Genny cared for Nick and his sister after their parents took off for better pickings. This was many years ago; Nick adores his uncle and feels guilty for not spending quality time with them while his aunt was still alive. Neither of Nick or his sister, or I, for that matter, had it easy growing up.

What's keeping you two apart? He is a retired police officer who now works as chief investigator for the skeeving git attorney I mentioned earlier. While Nick is here in Cape Brendan, assisting with Caper Madness, he is also keeping close watch out for the client's wife and their kids who, unbeknownst to him, are hiding in my house. Nick's boss is convinced they will attempt to flee to Canada via the Cape Brendan ferry which traverses the River several times a day. My mission, should it come to that, is to get the woman and her children to safety no matter the cost.

What one thing could you do that would make you feel like the relationship will work out? I suppose I could turn them over to the skeeving git and therefore the sexual predator husband. But that will never happen. Also, I'm not certain I want another relationship. Around here I'm known as the Black Mamba, because of the four husbands and fiances I've buried either shortly before or right after the weddings. I'm not what they'd call a safe bet. Plus, I can't imagine any man in his right mind who would want me after learning my background.

Any last comments? Caper Madness is the first in a series of stories set in Cape Brendan. Characters from previous novels written by Veronica or her alter ego, Kat Henry Doran, will surface and create new lives for themselves on The River.
