Rise for Me and Kristal Dawn Harris

Vampire and warlock, Roman Lee, spent centuries alone as ringmaster of the carnival. After befriending and healing a scarred, young woman, Roman realizes Mariah is his mate. He waits for her, but when she departs from his life, his torture knows no bounds. Now he's risen, unforgiving and angry, forced from his grave by the one woman who captured his heart, but will another secret and the call of his mate change everything?

The steady call of Roman's blood and the promise of peace brings Mariah Stone home to the carnival and the vampire she left behind. He ignores her until she forces him from the grave with her blood. His anger crushes her already broken spirit, but she is determined to win Roman's forgiveness and free him from their bond. Denied passion leads them down a path of magic and desire, while a devastating secret threatens eternal love.

Wild Women Authors is pleased to feature author Kristal Dawn Harris as she celebrates the recent release of Rise for Me, a contemporary paranormal romance out of the Wild Rose Press. With Kristal is Roman Lee who will go first.

Good morning, Roman. Please tell us a bit about yourself, starting with where you’re from. The Carpathian Mountains, Romania.

What did you think the first time you saw Mariah Stone? I thought she was a beautiful child. I observed her stealing the hearts of the people of the carnival and mature into a beautiful young woman. It wasn’t until I healed her that I knew she was my mate. From that moment everything changed.

What was your second thought? Once Mariah turned 18, I expected too much. Mariah was so young by human standards, and I had lived for a very long time, so I didn’t know how to bridge the gap.

So was it love at first sight? No, it wasn’t because Maria was just a child the first time I met her. She was attending the carnival with her parents and I thought she was just another kid enjoying the rides and games.

What do you like most about her? I loved Mariah’s acceptance of the different.

How would you describe her? Mariah was a quiet child. She was insecure because of teasing about her birthmark. It broke my heart to watch such a beautiful, loving individual be tormented in that way. As a vampire, someone different, I identified with her.

How would Mariah describe you? I would think Mariah would describe me as her friend at first, but with time and maturity, I would hope she’d describe me as the love of her life. It’s different for vampire mates. We are fated to be together and there will never be another.

What made you choose Ringmaster as a career?  The carnival was created as a place for people who didn’t fit in normal society. I could protect them, defend them, and provide a home. It was also a way for a vampire to travel the country and still be secretive. I was just a strange face passing through a strange town and no one knew who or what I was.

What is your biggest fear? My biggest fear would be losing Mariah of course.

How do you relax? I am a wood carver. I learned the skill from my father. It gives me purpose and the children seem to love my creations.

Who is your favorite fictional character? You ask a vampire who their favorite fictional character is? Okay, because I love my carnival, and I love people with unique characteristics, I love Dumbo. Who doesn’t love those floppy ears?

What is the best piece of advice you ever received? My sister, Lizzie, told me that I shouldn’t be so hard on someone so young, referring to Mariah, and it turns out she was right. In the future, I will remember that piece of advice.

Roman, thanks for taking time away from Ringmastering; now we’d like to chat with Kristal.

What movies or books have had an impact on your career as a writer? I am a huge fan of Christine Feehan’s Dark series. The first book, Dark Prince, stays with me no matter what I read. After I learned why she wrote the book, it meant even more.

What event in your private life were you able to bring to this story and how do you feel it impacted the novel? In 1999, I went numb in my feet and hands only later to be diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome. I lost all independence, and had to relearn to walk, drive, type, work, and do everyday chores. As a result of the nerve damage, I wear drop-foot braces to help me walk. I know exactly how it feels to be stared at, so I could fully identify with Mariah. With time, the sting of what people thought disappeared, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t wish for a miraculous healing…even from a vampire.

Tell us a bit about your publisher: how did you hear about them and what influenced your decision to submit to them? I write for The Wild Rose Press, Inc. After I finished my first novel, The Rings of Faolan-Emeralds, I searched for a publisher with a great reputation for helping new authors and professionalism. The Wild Rose Press, Inc. consistently popped up in my searches, so I took a chance, and they took a chance on me. I’ll forever be grateful.

What book[s] currently rest on your TBR pile? Dark Song by Christine Feehan.

Lastly, what's up next and when can we expect to see it on the shelves? Seduction by Blood has been contracted with The Wild Rose Press, Inc. It doesn’t have a release date yet, but close. It’s a paranormal erotic vampire story. I cowrote the book with another Wild Rose Press author.
